Course participants must be a minimum of 18 years old and can read and write in English. They should have knowledge of the types and styles of PPE commonly used in their place of work as well as an understanding of key UK Health and Safety Legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act. Learners may also be required to provide proof of identity at the start of their training.

Where appropriate the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations, Activity Centres Act and National Governing Body guidance will also be covered for those working in the adventure activities sector. Learners will have hands on experience of genuine PPE failures and explore PPE management administration including cloud-based systems. Learners will discuss Examiner best practice including providing advice on failures, trend identification and basic, permitted repairs. By the end of the course learners will be able to carry out “Thorough Examinations” as a competent person within their own organisation.
