This course will take existing technical rescue professionals and immerse them in a four day experience with a specific focus on fulfilling the role of medic in a rope rescue team. The course is developed and delivered with our medical training partner The Soteria Group and includes the international trauma benchmark qualification NAEMT PHTLS UK 10th Ed.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for those involved in technical rescue who will take on the role of medic. This may include: Firefighters, Paramedics, Remote Medics, Operators, Police, Security, Search and Rescue, Emergency Response Teams and Film & TV Risk Management.

Prerequisites

Course participants must be a minimum of 18 years old, medically fit and healthy. Learners should have evidence of competency in rope rescue and medical. Learners must also provide their own basic PPE, including, non-slip work gloves, suitable outdoor/work clothing and footwear. Learners may also be required to provide proof of identity at the start of their training.
Pre-course reading will be issued via eBook one month prior, learners should plan to spend time preparing for this course.

Content

This course covers the PHTLS syllabus integrated with rope rescue. A mixture of classroom theory led by knowledgeable and experienced rescuers and medics combined with practical simulations bringing together the two disciplines to develop you as a Rope Rescue Medic. Expect to rig using modern rope rescue equipment and techniques to access casualties using rope systems and treat casualties for prolonged periods before planning extraction.

Assessment

The course is assessed using practical demonstration and verbal reasoning throughout. This course culminates in a summative medical multi choice assessment paper.

Certification

Successful learners will be issued with a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support certificate provided by The Soteria Group and an STC Rope Rescue Medic certificate of attendance valid for 4 years from the date of assessment; annual refreshers are recommended.
This course is delivered in accordance with BS8454:2006 “Code of practice for the delivery of training and education for work at height and rescue”.
